ARTSEMERSON

ArtsEmerson is the professional presenting and producing organization of Emerson College's Office of the Arts. Founded in 2010 by Robert J. Orchard, the year the US Census confirmed there was no single cultural majority in Boston, we committed to building a cultural institution that reflects the diversity of our city. We operate from the core belief that the arts are for everyone. By “putting the world on stage” ArtsEmerson quickly established a reputation for presenting outstanding work from around the globe — work that emanates from the language of theater, yet pushes the boundaries between theater, dance, music, and media arts. And by bringing diverse programming to neighborhoods all over the city, we have become an integral part of Boston’s efforts to transform our bitter history of segregation into a resilient legacy of equity and unity in diversity. ArtsEmerson is led by Executive Director, David Howse.

BRIGHT LIGHTS FILM SERIES

The Bright Lights Film Series is sponsored by Emerson College's Department of Visual and Media Arts. The mission of the series is to provide engaging visual media related events to the Emerson College community as well as the wider Boston community. These events range from screening of student, faculty and alumni work to the work of local, national and international artists as well as demonstrations, lectures, discussions and presentations by industry professionals. Bright Lights seeks to create an environment where visual media is not only viewed and appreciated but where a dialogue is fostered and a community of media makers, academics and aficionados are engaged and supported. Events take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening during the semester with the exception of occasions when the college is closed (such as holidays, spring break, inclement weather). This series is programmed by Events and Internship Manager, Anna Feder. All events are free and open to the public.

EMERSON STAGE

At Emerson Stage, students in Emerson College's Department of Performing Arts apply skills learned in the classroom to real-life production challenges. Our student actors, designers, stage managers, technicians and educators work side-by-side with faculty, professional staff, and visiting artists to perfect their skills, build their resumes, and deepen their understanding of their craft and the role theater plays in enriching our culture and community. As a first-year student, all Performing Arts majors participate backstage as a production crew member; students from their sophomore year onwards have the opportunity to deepen their experience through production projects targeted to a specific area of study. Our nine-show season offers more than 120 opportunities for actors, 100 positions for design staff, 70 in production and another 70 in theatre management, and 30 artistic roles – all reserved exclusively for Performing Arts students.
